Getting currently playing track

Ingemar Sep 05, 2019 08:36AM CEST

Hi,

Is there any way of getting the currently played track within Pacemaker to an external device? Unfortunately Spotify APIs does not work. Pacemaker seems to update the nowPlayingInfo on iOS but I'm not sure that can be accessed from anywhere else? Right now it seems I'm stuck with music recognition but it's really "gå över ån efter vatten" as we say here in Sweden.. :) Help!

Thanks,
Ingemar

Hey Ingemar,

Great question! This isn't possible unfortunately either through Spotify or iOS for privacy reasons. Infact there were issues when sending now-playing information back to Spotify so it's been disabled. DJ apps need to prepare the upcoming songs whilst another one is playing, otherwise there'd be that awkward silence between tracks, which no-one likes. This means that the currently "playing" Spotify track isn't what you'd expect.

We do though provide the correct nowPlayingInfo to iOS so externally connected devices such as CarKit, should be able to display that information whilst driving.
